Musical INFLUENCES: There are so many patches of influences when it comes to my life in music. What I can say is that ” if it catches my ear it’s probably good”.

The Phx House Dj (Joseph Nast): I was born from a boombox… As a kid in the 80′s breakdancing and Technics was something
that you could not escape from, it was on the streets, in your homes and on the tv. Living in the 90′s was more of a life changing decade for me. I was a freshmen in high school when i got my first real
taste of hardware based music(synths, beat machines, ect.). Next I found myself at break-ins and underground parties (rave’s you would know them as). This is where i found myself mesmerized by what a dj did with the music that had become such a movement in my life.

I am Dj you would call …OLD SCHOOL. I am a Dj that takes pride in what he does! I believe in the fundamentals of what it means to be a Dj. Im Honest and Direct. I enjoy to just kick it and spin music for great people and with good Dj’s. I have played in many states with some small timers as well as world class talent. I have moved threw MANY styles of music to better my instincts and track composure. Im from New York But the 3 years i spent in Chi-Town made me the house Dj I am today.

AMUSE (Donald M. Tapia Jr.):  Growing up in Long Beach, CA in the 80’s and 90’s, I was heavily influenced by the break dance and early west coast hip hop culture. Mix tapes in the ghetto blaster and cardboard for battling was a part of life. I remember days playing Nintendo in a friends’ garage and listening to Dr. Dre mixing it up on a new mix tape just purchased at the Compton swap meet. I always loved beats and the way a dj can create a feeling from them.

I started my house music journey in 93’. A few of my friends opened a weekly house club in Downy, CA called Avalock that they invited me to. The club did not do so well, but the house seed was planted. Having serious househead friends, meant going out all the time. At first, I didn’t understand house music but soon learned the freedom of which house gives you. We were regulars at many L.A and Orange County house spots, such as Magic Wednesdays, Small Factory of Ssound and Metropolis to name a few and attended raves almost every weekend. Continue reading →

Miguel Angel Trejo Aka DJ Kanmat was born in Brownsville, Texas and raised in different cities in Mexico. Miguel has been attracted & involved in the underground music scene since the early age of 14 (1999).

He started his own mobile DJ service known as MATSOUND. MATSOUND took the mobile DJ service by storm, becoming the most requested mobile DJ service in Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Miguel was also involved in the Punk/Rock music scene. Not only as a musician but also as a Audio Technician for concerts & events.

Miguel has been a “Multi-genre” DJ, playing in clubs, raves, and concerts in Mexico & the South Texas region including Victoria, Tampico, Monterrey, San Luis, Guanajuato and Mexico DF, then moving his way back to South Texas where he currently resides.  

Kanmat has opened for DJs & Artist such as: Forza, Dynamic, Infected Mushroom, Barletta, DJ Irene, Cold Blank, Designer Drugs, Tonic, MR. Wonk,
Francis Preve and others.

Ferndog & KanMat have been working together since 2010 as a DJ tag team & recently started a new project which is a live act called Kandog.  They are still experimenting with electronic sounds.

From Chicago, Myke ShyTowne ventured into many various styles of HOUSE music. “Since I was moving away from the minimal hardcore sounds at the time, I needed a new sound. Being from Chicago, I started getting attached to the Chicago Hard House sound. I started listening to the B-96 FM weekend mixes (you remember the ones with Bad Boy Bill, Tim “Spinnin” Schomer, Julian “Jumpin” Perez, etc.) not to forget the sounds of D.J. Trajic, Fast Eddie, P-Jay, DJ Bam Bam, DJ Attack, Hot Mix 5 mixes … there are so many…!”

Thus, liking the Chicago Hard House sounds, Myke ShyTowne constructed mixes for people featuring labels such as Underground Construction (UC), Jasper Stone, Abstract Records and more. “During this time, I was also interested in Progressive, Trance, Techno, Breaks, Jungle, DnB, Nu-Style (Hardstyle – 97′ and on) Dub and others – I do not know how many times I’ve broken my bank account picking records out from multiple genre stacks just to get enough music for one 60 minute mix!” After Electronic Dance Music mutated into many sub-genres – somewhere between the late 90′s early 00′s – Myke ShyTowne found himself inside a candy store! Some facts about “Colt!”:

I was born in 1976 in the GDR (German Democratic Republic).

I started to make music in 1999. I liked to go to party, dance all night long…….and I was interested in “the other side of the floor”.  At first I thought “I must be a DJ”.  After a short time I knew that I  must produce my own style and I must perform this as a live act!

I had my first gigs at my own parties to learn how to handle the crowd.  It then grew step by step and I was soon getting gigs with musicians from all over world such as: Matthias Kaden, Chris Liebing, Marks Kavka, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Reboot, Das Krause Duo, Alex Smoke, Claude van Stroke, along with my live set on the 2nd Sunday of each month on www.undergroundhouse.tv.

1982: Started mixing music up on my Commodore 64 to recording radio shows and sending them to my friends in Florida. Over the years, I worked with various friends to erect a studio with reel-to-reel, 8-track, cassette, and other various forms of Linear editing equipment. Over my pre-teen and teenage years, my tech friends and I manipulated many formats, and actually broadcast real radio shows using equipment suitable for neighborhood listening via radio.

1993: I met a DJ by the name of DJ Gemini Aka Chris Pappas. Chris has been a loyal family friend that got me into mixing records and manipulating vinyl records. At this time, I had bought my first 4 channel mixer with built in sampler and 2 used Technics 1200s from “Fat Sams” an old bar I worked at. We used Mini-Disk at the time to record our sessions. Pat has been the “house” dj on the JC-TV network’s show “Top 3”. Pat had the idea of forming a monthly dj fellowship called the Southern California DJ and Groovemaker’s Fellowship (soon to be renamed Groove Fellowship).

Pat took his love for music to the lab and started creating tracks. His track, “Creator” was recently featured on a tsunami relief album as well as being available for download on Beatport.com and other outlets. ABOUT: I’ve always been a House-Head and used to watch Derrick Carter, Lego, Justin Long, Mark Farina and others mix in Chicago clubs such as Shelter, Red Dog, and Smart Bar.  I finally learned how to work the decks during the winter of 2006/2007 after a chance meeting with Chicago DJ Thelonious Funk turned into an offer of free lessons …I bluffed my way into my first major club gig that summer.   Former guitarist in various Chicago rock bands (Bodhisattva, Octopussy), former owner of Chicago underground rock label Urban Legends Records (The Wesley Willis Fiasco, Trailer Hitch, etc.), previously a writer for various underground punk/rock/alternative music ‘zines.  Learned how to play guitar after stumbling into a JESUS LIZARD show at Chicago’s Cabaret Metro and, after picking my jaw up off of the floor, made my way backstage to ask their guitarist Duane Denison if he would teach me how to play.  Thankfully his answer was “Yes”.  ….. That was then, this is now… I’m lucky to have finally immersed myself in my passion.. that thing I’d been looking for the entire time without realizing it was always there, in the background, waiting for me to become one with it…. HOUSE MUSIC.  Now… every time I get behind the decks I feel like I’m making up for lost time…..
