AMUSE (Donald M. Tapia Jr.): Growing up in Long Beach, CA in the 80’s and 90’s, I was heavily influenced by the break dance and early west coast hip hop culture. Mix tapes in the ghetto blaster and cardboard for battling was a part of life. I remember days playing Nintendo in a friends’ garage and listening to Dr. Dre mixing it up on a new mix tape just purchased at the Compton swap meet. I always loved beats and the way a dj can create a feeling from them.
I started my house music journey in 93’. A few of my friends opened a weekly house club in Downy, CA called Avalock that they invited me to. The club did not do so well, but the house seed was planted. Having serious househead friends, meant going out all the time. At first, I didn’t understand house music but soon learned the freedom of which house gives you. We were regulars at many L.A and Orange County house spots, such as Magic Wednesdays, Small Factory of Ssound and Metropolis to name a few and attended raves almost every weekend. Continue reading

….or is that a step back?! Arizona’s DJ RUTHLESS scratches and mixes on what seems to be simple double deck boom-boxes (with flip doors removed for access to the cassette reels) and a two channel mixer. Surely a sight to see, but you definitely have to hear it to appreciate how he brings his scratching ability to this medium. One is only left to wonder how many performances each cassette allows before it shows stretching issues(?) No matter, we have this awesome clip here where we can easily hit play again.

DOCUMENTARY PREVIEW ~ ‘MY HOUSE ROCS’
I stumbled across this preview for an incredible-looking House Music ‘dance-a-mentary’ slated to be released in 2012, and you must check out this 11 minute clip. MY HOUSE ROCS is packed with some of the most insightful commentary regarding House Music that I’ve heard…. I’ve always totally dug listening to passionate people expound on that thing we call HOUSE. The producers interview not only some heavy-hitters in the world of House Music, but also sound system providers, and of course the heads enjoying the music. Some friends involved in the streaming video DJ community make their appearances too, including King Lion and DJ iLe ife (you go girl!!!). What makes this documentary unique is it appears that it takes place completely outside of the dark club environment and brings it into the light of day… parks, beaches, festivals, street fairs, etc…. Fernando C. Mendiola Jr. Aka DJ Ferndog has loved Dance/Electronic music his whole life but it wasn’t until April 2008 when he truly discovered his passion for House Music. Starting off at local parties & raves, Ferndog worked his way up into some of the hottest clubs In the R.G.V (Rio Grande Valley).
Ferndog’s influences include some of his favorite DJ’s such as Mixin Marc, Alex Peace, DJ Bam Bam, Steve Smooth and Tony Arzadon. Ferndog loves to playing Electro-house, Prog-house, Tech-house, & House.
Ferndog has traveled all over South Texas, from South Padre Island to San Antonio, Texas. He has opened up for artists such as Barletta, Tonic, MR. Wonk, Designer Drugs, Cold Blank, & Chuckie.

Miguel Angel Trejo Aka DJ Kanmat was born in Brownsville, Texas and raised in different cities in Mexico. Miguel has been attracted & involved in the underground music scene since the early age of 14 (1999).
He started his own mobile DJ service known as MATSOUND. MATSOUND took the mobile DJ service by storm, becoming the most requested mobile DJ service in Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Miguel was also involved in the Punk/Rock music scene. Not only as a musician but also as a Audio Technician for concerts & events.
Miguel has been a “Multi-genre” DJ, playing in clubs, raves, and concerts in Mexico & the South Texas region including Victoria, Tampico, Monterrey, San Luis, Guanajuato and Mexico DF, then moving his way back to South Texas where he currently resides.
Kanmat has opened for DJs & Artist such as: Forza, Dynamic, Infected Mushroom, Barletta, DJ Irene, Cold Blank, Designer Drugs, Tonic, MR. Wonk,
Francis Preve and others.
Ferndog & KanMat have been working together since 2010 as a DJ tag team & recently started a new project which is a live act called Kandog. They are still experimenting with electronic sounds.

From Chicago, Myke ShyTowne ventured into many various styles of HOUSE music. “Since I was moving away from the minimal hardcore sounds at the time, I needed a new sound. Being from Chicago, I started getting attached to the Chicago Hard House sound. I started listening to the B-96 FM weekend mixes (you remember the ones with Bad Boy Bill, Tim “Spinnin” Schomer, Julian “Jumpin” Perez, etc.) not to forget the sounds of D.J. Trajic, Fast Eddie, P-Jay, DJ Bam Bam, DJ Attack, Hot Mix 5 mixes … there are so many…!”
